our mission and purpose

Established in 2020, Foster the Furbabies is a small, independent rescue led by two sisters, Gab and Gianna, focusing on helping vulnerable cats and kittens in need. Our mission is to take a chance on the most overlooked, special needs cases – whether cats are injured or at a medical disadvantage, or just need a little socialization and TLC – and give them the best chance possible to thrive long-term, no matter the cost. While we typically foster and adopt out cats in our rescue, we have also helped out with other animals when we’re able to (i.e. a senior hospice dog and guinea pigs).

We accept cats into our rescue by pulling time-stamped or rescue-only cats from our partner shelter, Associated Humane Societies South, and we assist with homeless cats in the community – whether through Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) projects or through Good Samaritans who find strays or abandoned cats. We very rarely have space for owner surrenders. 

Gab and Gianna are the sole fosters of the rescue, unless there is a specific circumstance requiring us to secure another foster home for a specific animal. We keep our operation small due to having full-time jobs outside of volunteer rescue work, limited donations, and focusing on quality of care over quantity of intakes. 

We are a 100% donation-based rescue, and all contributions go directly toward covering the costs of running the rescue, with veterinary care being our largest and most essential expense. We partner with trusted veterinary hospitals to ensure every foster receives the highest quality care, and all foster animals are fully vetted before adoption. Our work relies on the generosity of supporters and donors, and we often collaborate with local businesses to host fundraisers that help sustain our mission. We do not personally profit off of this work in any way.
